President's Message

As we start off this month, work seems difficult to think about, as most of us are preparing for the July 4th Holiday.  With that in mind, I wanted to share with you a favorite message about Independence Day.

“Throughout the year, we set aside special times to remember and celebrate our different ethnic roots.  But on Independence Day, we rejoice in our common heritage as Americans and in the values and history we share.

We have all benefited from the wisdom of our nation's founders, who crafted a blueprint for democracy that has served us well for more than 200 years and continues to inspire newly independent nations around the world.  We are all heirs to the rights articulated in our Constitution and reaffirmed by courageous men and women of every generation who have struggled to secure justice and equality for all.  We are all forever indebted to the millions of Americans in uniform who have shed their blood to defend our freedom and preserve our values across America and around the globe.”[1]

When you settle in with family and friends at your favorite location this year.  Relax, unwind and raise a glass and toast our nations birth, history and the freedoms we have.  If such a gesture sounds silly, remember that John Adams wrote his wife Abigail in 1776, that the anniversary of our independence should be observed with great fanfare: ". . . with pomp and parades . . . shows and games . . . and sports and guns and bells . . . with bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, and from this time forevermore."[2]

Have a happy and health holiday and I hope to see you all at the Summer Social on July 18th at Ed “Porky” Oliver’s Golf Club.
