Meeting/Event Information
The First State ALA Chapter offers a wide array variety of educational programming and social events for its members. Our educational programs target areas such as financial management, marketing and business development, human resources, information technology, social media and facilities management among many other topics. Our social gatherings give our members and business partners the opportunity to meet and network in a fun, casual setting. We encourage you to attend one of our great events and fully realize the value of an ALA First State Chapter membership! See below for a list of our upcoming events.
This year we believe we have an exciting set of programs for the chapter. Taking the lead offered by LTG Honoré at the November CLE, we will focus several of our monthly programs on Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity. Having experienced an earthquake, tornado, hurricane and blizzard in Wilmington over the past year, it seems appropriate that we gather any knowledge available regarding how to deal with these and other business-stopping issues.
Click the meeting title to register for an event - registration links will only be active for the current month's meeting.
All educational meetings will be held from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM unless otherwise noted on their registration page.
JAN 10th - EMPLOYMENT & LABOR UPDATE
Of course our year began with January's meeting focusing on the latest employment issues affecting our forms both on a national, state and local level. At Richards, Layton & Finger.
FEB 7th - DISASTER RECOVERY & BUSINESS CONTINUITY - Insurance Perspectives
The first of three sessions related to disaster recovery and business continuity. A number of our chapter sponsors who deal in risk insurance will conduct a panel discussion regarding the numerous insurance instruments you may want to consider having in place. This will not be a sales pitch, just a comprehensive look at alternatives and some real life examples of when things go wrong. At Morris Nichols.
MAR 6th - DISASTER RECOVERY & BUSINESS CONTINUITY - Planning & Procedures
The second of three sessions, this one looking at disaster recovery and business continuity from a planning perspective. Tentatively scheduled at Young Conway's new digs!
APR 3rd - DISASTER RECOVERY & BUSINESS CONTINUITY - Experiential Perspective
The third of three sessions. This one will be conducted by the partner from a firm that was directly affected by the Hurricane Katrina disaster. You won't want to miss this session. At Morris James.
MAY 8th - PERSONALITY PROFILING
An interesting session dealing with personality profiling. This will be longer than our standard meeting, but you will gain a great deal from the experience. Venue and time to be determined.
JUN 5th - CYBER SECURITY
Still in the theme of disaster recovery, this program will center on preventing potential disasters due to cyber breaches. At Pepper Hamilton.
AUG 8th - CHAPTER ROUNDTABLE
Our annual chapter roundtable. An open forum to discuss general business, current events affecting our firms and program ideas for the following year. We are trying to schedule this at the Firestone from 3:30 to 4:30.
SEP 11th - FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FOR NON-FINANCIAL MANAGERS
We may try this via an ALA webinar. Should be interesting, particularly for those of us who are not that comfortable crunching numbers. At Connolly Bove.
OCT 2nd - THE FUTURE OF LAW FIRM INFRASTRUCTURE
The times they are a changing. We all see that our attorney to secretary ratio has changed dramatically over the past decade. What else is on the horizon? Venue to be determined.
NOV 6th - DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Always a current topic and one worth repeating. Venue to be determined.
STAY TUNED! - In the future we plan to offer a Skype-based connection to view our meetings remotely for members who can't make it to the meeting but would like to view it from their home ofice.
